James William Potter was the son to Joseph James Potter and Florence Jane Potter. He served as Lance Corporal with 2nd Battalion, Devonshire Regiment.

Recommendation:
"At LES FORGES on 12th August 1944 at approximately 2100 hours, L/Cpl. Potter, was a member of a Platoon attacking a strongly hold enemy position. This Platoon came under extremely heavy shell and small arms fire and sustained a number of casualties. Whilst under heavy machine gun fire L/Cpl. Potter rendered First Aid to casualties and made three journeys back to his Company Headquarters, 100 yards away, supporting and dragging wounded men. These trips were all made under heavy fire.
Due entirely to this N.C.O.'s disregard for his own personal safety three wounded were able to be evacuated to the RAP.
L/Cpl. Potter had already experienced a particularly gurelling day of action."
