Remains German Flak tower

On top of the Lonnekerberg, between the trees, was a tree tower, also flak tower. Now only the foundations remain. Flak is short for 'flugabwehrkanone' or 'fliegerabwehrkanone', synonymously for anti aircraft gun.

There was a wooden and steel construction, with a house on top and a flak gun. This gun was used to shoot at low flying enemy aircraft. From this high position it is likely that the whole airfield could have been overseen. Around the Twente airfield a lot of flak guns were posted, in all sorts of sizes.
