Commonwealth War Graves Narvik Old Cemetery

Narvik Old Cemetery contains 13 Commonwealth war graves from the First World War, all of crewmembers of the HMS "India" which was sunk on 8 August 1915.

HMS India was an Armed Merchant Cruiser converted from a P&O Liner. She was on patrol off Norway tasked with intercepting ships supplying iron ore to Germany. At 5.40PM on 8th August 1915 she was torpedoed by a submarine. Many of her crew died in the sinking and those that survived were interred in Norway until the end of the war
