Mouth of Matanikau Battlefield
Sumiyoshi's attack group was defeated here by the entrenched 1st Marine Division on 23 October 1942. In this battle, which later known as the Battle for Henderson Field, 2200 to 3000 Japanese soldiers were killed, while the U.S. Army 'only' suffered 61-86 KIA's.
