Banzai Cliff

(Micronesia - Saipan - San Roque)

During the Battle of Saipan (15.6.1944 - 9.7.1944) many hundreds of Japanese citizens and soldiers jumped from this cliff towards a certain death. Today there are a great number of memorial stones at this site, erected by family members to pay a last tribute to their beloved.
