Memorial Halifax III MZ763 EY-'S'

On 23 September 1944, on 22.05, Halifax III MZ763 EY-'S' crashed on this location. The Halifax took part in a raid of 549 bombers on Düsseldorf and Neuss. On its way back it was attacked by a German ME-110, flewn by Oberfeldwebel Wolfram Möckel.

The crewmembers were:
F/O johny Swanson, F/Eng Robert Nutbrown, Nav. Albert Barnes, B/A Louis Robert, W/Op Alistair Campbell, Mug. John Bennett and R/G F/O William Grew.

Robert, Nutbrown, Barnes and Bennett could leave the plane. Nutbrown's parachute refused to open. Barnes became POW, the other who men managed to escape. Swanson, Grew and Campbell were killed in the crash.

Nutbrown is buried in Nederweert, Swanson, Grew and Campbell are buried in Weert.
