Memorial Stirling LK209

Along a footpath on Vlieland, there is a memorial for a crashed Short Stirling. The text on the memorial is:
i]On march 23rd 1945 Stirling LK209 MA T of 161 squadron Royal Air Force crashed against the dunes here.

The four engined bomber was on a weapon drop mission for the Dutch resistance.

The crew of the aircraft consisted of:
Piloot, Flight Lieutenant, Alan H. Aitken
Boordwerktuigkundige, Flight Engineer, William Horrocks
Navigator, Navigator, Ronald A. Caston, 23 years
Marconist/schutter, Wireless operator/Air gunner, Reginald Swift, 22 years
Bomrichter, Air Bomber, William L. Shaw, 22 year
Schutter, Air Gunner, Alexander R. Paton, 24 years
Staartschutter, Air Gunner, Joseph T. White, 23 years

Only the tailgunner Joseph White survived the crash.
