This Memorial is raised to the memory of the 2 glider pilots and the 21 men of the 9th airborne 9th Field Company Royal Engineers who were killed when their Airspeed Horsa Glider N.O. RJ 113 crashed in this field on Sunday September 17th 1944 en-route for Arnhem Operation Market Garden. The glider took off from R.A.F. Keevil Wiltshire towed by a Short Stirling bomber no LK 148 of 229 Squadron. All men were buried at Weston-Super-Mare cemetery with full military honours.
