Memorial Walter Frank Watson Veness

During a German attack on Fort Sabina in January 1945, Canadian soldier Walter Frank Watson Veness was seriously injured and died on January 22 in the hospital in Dirksland.
It has now been established that the German raid was carried out by part of Marine Einsatz Kommando 40, or MEK40 for short. This was in connection with the raid on the St.Philipsland Peninsula. To commemorate this, a memorial monument was unveiled at Fort Sabina on Sunday, January 25, 2015.

The monument is located next to the Fort Keeper's House, at the entrance to the fort.
