American Memorial Linden

This monument can be found on the municipal cemetery in Linden (near Cuijk). The monument has been set on the wall that surrounds the cemetery.

The text on the shield near the monument can be translated as follows:

Aircraft 42-100863 of 441/ 99TH troop carrier Squadron.
Has been shot down in flames on September 17th, 1944, near the drop zone of Groesbeek in a heavily concentrated anti aircraft barrage.
All paratroopers onboard were able to leave the aircraft apart from private Bellersfield and the crew of the C-47A.
On its way back the aircraft was hit again and crashed in flames near the little village of Groot-Linden.
On September 20th, 1944, they were entered on this cemetery and on March 18th, 1946, they were re-buried at the military cemetery of Margraten.
