This Maginot casemate of the type "CORF double" was operated by 30 men of the 42e RIF. On 16 June 1940, an intense artillery and Stuka bombardment was launched by the Germans on casemate 35/3. The day ended with an assault by German combat engineers of the 360th Infantery Regiment. Casemate 35/3 suffered high casualties.

It is currently a museum. Outside are exhibited various military vehicles, including a 152 mm Russian gun which is also a memorial dedicated to the 140.000 Alsatians and Lorrainers who were forced to join the Wehrmacht. A plaque, placed in the south chamber of the casemate, reads:
"Ici le 16 juin 1940 est mort pour la France le caporal-chef Louis Gardet."
