Bunker Museum Hirtshals

The Bunker Museum Hirtshals is Denmark's only excavated, complete German defence installation from World War II open to the public. The museum consists of 54 excavated bunkers along with many gun, mortar and machinegun emplacements. There are also radar and searchlight installations. In all the area contains 70 different rooms connected by 3.5 km of trenches. Most of the bunkers belong to the so called 10.Battery, but the Harbour Master's installation is also a part of the museum area.

There has been set up an information exhibition in a personnel bunker, where one can see an exhibition concerning the 10. Battery and Hirtshals; and the other bunkers have been restored to their original condition. Therefore a visit to the Bunker Museum is an opportunity for a glimpse of daily life in and around the bunkers and one can learn about an important part of newer Danish cultural history. It is also possible to take part in a guided tour of the museum area.

In the museum area is Hirtshals Lighthouse, where one can, during the Lighthouse's opening times, have an overview of the enormous fortification and the installation's layout.

All movement in the area at OWN risk!
