Maginot Line - Fortress Rochonvillers

The Maginot Line Rochonvillers fortress was a part of the Secteur fortifié de Thionville.

The garrison consisted of 756 soldiers and 25 officers from the 169th RIF (Fortress Infantry Regiment). Block 5 is one of the biggest casemates of the Maginot Line.

In 1940 the 135mm mortars of Rochonvillers proved to be very efficient against enemy strongpoints.

During their occupation, the Germans built a T-shape command bunker ('Anlage Brunhilde') for the Luftwaffe on top of the Rochonvillers fortress.

The fort today:
Despite the fact it is currently abandoned, Rochonvillers is still owned by the French army.
