War Memorial Holland-America-Line

The 'HAL monument' was erected in memory of the Holland America Line employees who died during the Second World War.

During the Second World War, 264 employees of the Holland America Line were killed. Most ships of the Holland America Line were stationary during the Second World War. The ships that were offshore at the time the war broke out were used by the Allies, for example to transport troops. A number of those ships have been torpedoed by U-boats. Many crew members lost their lives.
