For our martyrs
that died for Belgium
1940 – 1945
Their lives for our freedom.
On the plaque in the middle some lines from a poem by Henri Bragard can be seen.
From the plaque to the right the text can be translated as follows:
Remember
Passers-by, these citizens from Malmedy have died
in the camps of the Nazis or in participating in the resistance.
Underneath this text are the names of the victims like:
Prisoners of the Gestapo (German Secret Police),
shot down,
slave laborers,
Prisoners of concentration camps Mauthausen, Sachsenhausen, Buchenwald, Dachau.
The text on the plaque in the foreground can be translated as follows:
On this spot rest
the ashes of victims of the Nazis
which have been brought here
from the crematorium of
concentration camp Dachau.
