Sint-Maartens-Kathedraal

The Southern Portal:

What strikes us here is the coulored, 16-sides rose windows (1935) with radical tracery, made by Miss Geddes. The medieval symbol of the divine perfection is a coulorful hymn of thanksgiving to God: "God is light" (Te Deum). In the middle of the rose window God stands forth, surrounded by the apostles and the saints, among whom Saint Albertus. It is a present from the British troops of the First World War to King Albert I. It was inaugurated in 1938 in memory of the many fallen soldiers from the "Great War".

Within the cathedral are also two plaques dedicated to:
- The one million dead of the British Empire who were killed in the Great War (World War I). Many of them are buried in Belgium.
- The French who were killed in Belgium in the Great War (World War I).
