War Memorial Bourne

This memorial commemorates the residents of Bourne who were killed or missing in World War I and World War II.

Many of these memorials were erected after the First World War. After the Second World War, the names of those who died in that war were also added to the memorial.

The memorial paving stone at the Bourne war memorial commemorates Cpl Charles Sharpe (1889-1963) who was awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery during the Battle of Aubers Ridge in France on 9 May 1915.

He was the first soldier from the Lincolnshire Regiment to win Britain’s highest award for gallantry in the field.
