Musée de la Libération
(France - Basse-Normandie - Sainte-Marie-du-Mont)
The museum is located right in the center of the town on the square of the church.
The museum displays a collection of equipments, weapons, personal effects belonging to the paratroopers of the 101st Airborne and the infantrymen of the 4th Infantry Division, but also to other troops like tank crews, seamen and airmen.
There are also some Germans uniforms, helmets, equipments and panels. Sainte-Marie-du-Mont had been also a German Command Post, mainly the one of the 749th Artillery Regiment in charge of the coastal defense. And after the landing, many Germans units tried to repulse the invaders and so have left traces of their fights.
