Memorial "Polegli Niepokonani"

This memorial, "Fallen Undefeated 1939-1945", is standing on the "Cemetery of the Warsaw Uprising" and commemorates the Poles who gave their lives for the fatherland.

It is a memorial for civilian victims of the German suppression in the Warsaw Uprising. The sculpture is set on a tomb where 12 tonnes of human ashes collected from around the city were buried. Between the 3rd and 5th of August 1944 German troops pacifying the insurrection murdered, stock piled and burned around 50,000 Warsovians from the districts of Wola and Ochota. It remains the greatest single massacre in Europe of World War II.
