War and Resistance Museum Johannes Post

(Netherlands, the - South Holland - Ridderkerk - Rijsoord)

This museum is also called the Johannes Post museum of the capitulation. On May 15, 1940 in Rijsoord an important event took place in the school building which is situated at the Rijksstraatweg. The capitulation of the Dutch for the German superior power was undersigned here by the Commander of the Dutch forces, General Winkelman.
The monument for this fact in front of the school contains the warning:
“The people that neglect their defenses risk their freedom”.

In the school building the very realistic museum of this capitulation has been established. The room in which the actual capitulation was signed has been completely reconstructed with look alike dummies in the original uniforms.

Next to that there is a large exposition of the war development during those days in May from newspapers, photographs etc. etc..

For current visiting hours, please visit the website of the museum.
