Grave Civilian Casualty Winterberg

(Germany - Nordrhein-Westfalen - Winterberg)

On Easter Sunday 1945, Winterberg was occupied by U.S. forces. Only one civilian was killed. This was Pastor (Pfarrer) Heinrich Hackenberg, he was hit in his head by a grenade splinter. Heinrich Hackenberg was Pastor in Winterberg during the war years. He is buried next to St. James Church.
