Commonwealth War Graves Distington

(UK: England - Cumbria - Distington)

Distington (Holy Spirit) Churchyard contains three burials of the Second World War.

Serjeant George Harrison (28), 24th Middlesex Bn. Home Guard
Lance Corporal Joseph Hays (26), Corps of Military Police
Sergeant Ernest Stabler (20), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

Their are also two men mentioned on gravestones, although they are not buried here:
Sergeant William Southward (24), 22 Squadron Royal Air Force (photo 4)
Fuselier James Watson (21), 6 Bn. Royal Scots Fusiliers (photo 5)

Southward and the rest of the crew of Bristol Beaufort L4453 did not return from their mission on 9 May 1940. They are therefor mentioned on the Runnymede Memorial. Watson was killed in action in Holland and is buried at the Mierlo War Cemetery.
