Jonas Daniël Meyer Square Amsterdam

Jonas Daniel Meyer square in central Amsterdam is the heart of the old Jewish Quarter of the city. On the square stands the war memorial "The Dock Worker", here is the Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese-Jewish Synagogue.
At this square, on 22 and 23 February 1941 the first big razzia was held against the Jewish population of Amsterdam. There were 425 Jewish men deported to concentration camps Mauthausen and Buchenwald. This raid was the onset of the strike in February.
