Birthplace Cyriel Verschaeve

Cyriel Verschaeve was a poet and during WW2, he was a ‘black priest’. He was born in the Brugstraat of Ardooie on the 30th april 1874. During WW2 he was a perfervid collaborator. And he was also a upholder for the ‘Flemish Case’. In 1944, German SS forces took him to Germany to protect him for the upcoming liberation. After the liberation, in 1946, the Judge sentenced him to capital punishment. But when they sentenced the punishment, he was still in Germany. He died in Austria on 8 of November 1949.
