Maas-line - River Casemate South

This Dutch river casemate was built in 1936 as part of the Maas-line. It was armed with a 5cm gun and a heavy machine gun.

On 10 May 1940, the 254.ID attacked this region to capture the railway bridge at Mook. Katwijk (com. Cuijk) was defended by the 3-II-36 R.I. and 13 casemates of the Maas-line.

During the fighting, all 6 Corporals inside the casemate were killed when a 88mm grenade penetrated the casemate.
