Commonwealth War Grave Renkum

(Netherlands, the - Guelders - Renkum)

At the municipal cemetery Mariahof in Renkum is one Commonwealth war grave.
This is the grave of: Serjeant James Michael Gibbons, 4537398.

During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, many British Airbornes attempted to cross the river Rhine to stay out of the hands of the Germans. Many of these Britons were killed by enemy fire or they drowned in the Rhine. James Gibbons probably as well, he's probably drowned during the crossing and probably washed ashore near Renkum.
