Lt. Eric Fischer Wood Memorial

(Belgium - Liège - Meyerode)

Deep into Ommerscheider Forest a simple memorial, created by the inhabitants of the village of Meyerode, is located. It commemorates Eric Fisher Woods of the 106th US Infantry Division.
On 17 December 1944, he escaped into the woods after a fight outside Schonberg. He could not get to the American lines and started on his own a guerrilla war. His body was found begin February 1945, surrounded by seven killed German soldiers. On this location the memorial was erected.

Take the N626 from St Vith to Schonberg. After passing the memorial for the 81st Engineers, several kilometres ahead there is a factory on the right side of the road. Go left and follow this road. After 800 metres the memorial is on the left side, between the trees.
