Memorials Mimoyecques

These memorialsare located within the underground catacombs of Museé de la base de V3 de Mimoyecques.

Joseph P. Kennedy
This memorial is dedicated to the U.S. Navy pilot, Lieutenant Joseph P. Kennedy (the older brother of the future president of the United States: John F. Kennedy) who was killed along with his co-pilot Wilford J. Willy on 12 August 1944, during Operation Aphrodite, when the explosives in their BQ-8 "Robot" aircraft detonated prematurely and vaporished the plane along with its crew. Operatiobn Aphrodite was a serie of attacks on the underground V-3 facility near Mimoyecques carried out by the U.S. Army with bombers converted into flying bombs.

Forced Laborers
This memorial is dedicated to the hundreds of forced laborers (mostly Soviet) who perished during the construction of this complex and during the Allied bombardments on Mimoyecques. Many of them were never recovered and are still buried underneath the rubble.

Airmen
This memorial is dedicated to the Allied airmen who fell during the air raids on the underground V-3 facility near Mimoyecques between 1943 and 1944. The inscription on the memorial reads:
