War Memorial Loftus

This memorial commemorates the residents of Loftus who were killed or missing in World War I (88 names) and World War II (37 names).

Many of these memorials were erected after the First World War. After the Second World War, the names of those who died in that war were also added to the memorial.

Next to the Loftus War Memorial is this memorial plaque with the follwing text:

Stanley E Hollis, VC

Born in Loftus, 21st September 1912.

On D-day, 6th June 1944,
Company Sergeant Major Hollis
of the Green Howards was awarded
the Victoria Cross, the only
one on that day.

Died 8th February 1972.
