On the general cemetery in Finnevaux is the grave of Edmond Lambert and his beloved wife, Edmont was a veteran of World War II. He died in 2008. Edmond Lambert served in the 4th Infantry Brigade (La 4ème brigade d'infanterie) also known as "Steenstraete". After the liberation of Belgium in 1944, 25,000 Belgians voluntarily went to Ireland to follow a military training with the intention to return to the mainland of Europe to fight the Germans. The Belgians didn't see much action, by the time they were ready for participation at the front, the war was over. After the war, the brigade had a large part in the creation of the new Belgian army.
