Artillery Fort 'Furggels'
(Switzerland - Sankt Margrethenberg)
This gigantic fortress was constructed from November 1939 to January 1945 to defend the area against a possible enemy invasion. The main armament consisted of four 10,5cm gun turrets of the type Turmkanone 39 and four 15cm guns. The complex can be described as a small village, as it consisted of a hospital, an emergency hospital, barracks, machine chamber and casemats. These defence works and facilities were connected by an underground tunnel system.
The fort can be visited these days.
