Memorial "Poles-Action" Leipzig

On 28 and 29 October 1938, the Nazis arrested many Polish Jews and deported them to the Polish border. Firstly, Poland did not wat to accept the Jews, later many of them were put in internment camps. The action "Polenaktion" was coordinated by Reinhard Heydrich and 17,000 Jews were deported.

Felix Chiczewski, the Polish general-consul in Leipzig, offered shelter for about 1300 Polish Jews on this location in Villa Ury, the Polish consulate and prevented their deportation. This plaque commemorates his action.
