Commonwealth War Graves Coutisse

On the General Cemetery in Coutisse are six Commonwealth war graves. These are the graves of S/L J. Beavis, P/O R.C.Embelin, Sgt H.D. Hurst, F/S N. Spark, Sgt J. Stewart and Sgt A.F. Wise. On August 11, 1942 at 2241 departed from Alconbury airbase, the Wellington Z1595 GT with the mission a raid over the city of Mainz in Germany. At 0157 it was shot by night-fighter OFW (Oberfeldwebel) Reinhard Kollak 7NJG4 at an altitude of 5400 m. After this, the plane crashed into Coutisse. In the crash all six crew members got killed, they are buried in this cemetery.
