Graves Dutch Airmen

(Netherlands, the - North Holland - IJmuiden)

On the cemetery Duinhof in IJmuiden are two graves of Dutch airmen. This is the grave of W. Mattijssen of 320 KM-MLD Squadron. He made 71 operational flights and was shot after a bombing attack on Bremen on June 26, 1942. He flew in the Hudson "Balikpapan". For his actions he received the Flying Cross award.
The other grave is of A.A Homburg. Homburg escaped to England, he was first incorporated in the Dutch intelligence after a dropping on September 9, 1941 over North Brabant, as agent, he was on 10 October betrayed by an old service buddy, after his escape from the notorious Oranje Hotel in The Hague, he escaped to England.
Later, as a fighter pilot in the Dutch 322 Spitfire Squadron, he was shot on April 1th at Borne. Special is that he was twice awarded the Bronze Lion, the second highest Dutch military award.
